Core Responsibilities of a Competent Person

A "competent person" is someone capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions and who has the authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them. Key duties include:

  • Erection and Dismantling: Supervising the assembly and disassembly of scaffold structures.

  • Safety Inspections: Conducting pre-shift inspections and identifying structural defects.

  • Hazard Assessment: Recognizing risks related to fall protection, electrical lines, and load capacities.

  • Work Stoppage: Exercising the authority to stop work until hazards are corrected
